What you can learn

Distinguish compressor, turbine and nozzle functions.

The inlet admits air, and compressor stages raise its pressure.

Fuel burns in the combustor. Hot gas expands through turbines that drive the compressor and fan through shafts.

Core and bypass air contribute to thrust in a turbofan. The fan and turbine do different jobs even when both look like bladed wheels.

Try an investigation

Follow airflow from inlet to exhaust, then trace the shaft connection in the opposite explanatory direction: turbine → compressor.

Check your understanding

What supplies work to turn the compressor?

The turbine through a shaft. Expanding gases turn turbine blades; a shaft transmits work to the compressor.

What is bypass air?

Air that flows around the engine core. A turbofan sends part of its intake air around the core through a bypass duct.

Which compressor row remains stationary?

Stator. Stators guide airflow between rotating compressor rows.

Sources and model scope

Representative two-spool turbofan with curved cutaway nacelle, swept blades, eight compressor rows, four turbine stages, annular combustion hardware and separate core/bypass guides. Static teaching reconstruction; not a particular engine or engineering flow solver.
