Heart & circulation in 3D
Explore the pump, arterial routes and venous return across the body. Explore the 3D model, inspect its parts and learn with guided explanations. Free on Atlas.

What you can learn
Connect vessel direction, exchange and the heart’s two circuits.
Arteries carry blood away from the heart; veins return it.
Capillary networks allow exchange between blood and surrounding tissues.
Pulmonary circulation connects heart and lungs; systemic circulation connects heart and the rest of the body.
Try an investigation
Trace a route from the aorta to a tissue and back toward the heart. Explain where exchange must happen along the route.
Check your understanding
What defines an artery?
It carries blood away from the heart. Arteries carry blood away from the heart; pulmonary arteries carry oxygen-poor blood.
Which chamber sends blood into the aorta?
Left ventricle. The left ventricle pumps into the aorta and systemic circulation.
Where does blood in pulmonary veins come from?
The lungs. Pulmonary veins return blood from the lungs to the left atrium.
Sources and model scope
The source cannot contain every capillary. Colours and vessel thickness help recognition and are not measurements of oxygen level or flow.
